Ramos and Compean to be freed? Not until March 20th says outgoing President Bush.
In a last ditch effort to save some face, Bush elected not to pardon the gentlemen, rather commute their sentences to a reduced sentence - releasing them on March 20th of 2009.
Bush's efforts simply reflect his lack of enthusiasm in border security, US/Mexico relations, and common sense.
I take that back - Bush has worked on US/Mexico relations... unfortunately every effort has been to benefit the Mexican people and government with little to better serve the United States.
The end of an era, indeed.

End of an Error
Let's face it - Obama is not what put "Conservatism in Exile"... it was Bush. George W. Bush killed true conservatism, and replaced it with the idea of "Neo-Conservatism", where strength of nation is not imagined, it is realized - through war, authoritarianism, and increased "national Intelligence".
I voted for Bush - twice. Once in 2000 as the lesser of two evils (Bush or McCain), and once again in 2004 (where Bush or Kerry didn't offer much more alternative than 4 years prior). This is why I worked extremely hard for Huckabee's campaign in the primaries - with my alternate vote being for Ron Paul. My thought was simple: if we continue to front bad candidates, we truly get more of the same.

Bush almost single handedly is responsible for the implosion of the Republican Party. His increase in spending, larger government, authoritarian, Orwellian, Open Borders, war mongering presidency led me to want to leave the party a number of times (unfortunately alternative conservative parties are extreme and ineffective) - but instead of leaving the party, I chose to get involved, in an attempt to drive home some reform from within our own ranks.
Bush Bashing - not without a purpose... To speak the truth should never be ostracized - though this is now a common tactic within our own party (and society as a whole). Bush may not have been the worst president, but he has been a bad one - bad for the party, bad for conservatism, and bad for libertarianism.
I echo the sentiments of my friend - the Southern Avenger - in bidding farewell to the End of an Error... in hopes that we learn from our mistakes and RETURN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY TO A PARTY OF LIBERTARIANISM and TRUE ECONOMIC CONSERVATISM.

Who throws a shoe?... Honestly...
Forget being boo-ed... President Bush got Shoe-ed!
Iraqi TV reporter Muntazer al-Zaidi threw two shoes at President G.W. Bush's head while giving a farewell press conference in Baghdad, leading to his detainment and a question as to how to punish the man - though current reports indicate that he will merely be tried for "insulting the Iraqi state".
This is not the first time that Bush has been targeted by thrown objects - the most deadly was a grenade thrown in the Former Soviet state of Georgia a few years back.
This marks the end of Bush's Iraq war... a war in which he has gone from liberator to tyrant in the minds of the people of that country... media bias getting all the praise.
The Shoe Incident is getting much press all over Iraq, and protests have sprung up all over Baghdad in support of the "Iraqi Hero", calling for his release. al-Zaidi is being praised as a national hero by the people, who are angry over the civilian casualties associated with the war in Iraq.
Bush was obviously shaken by the incident, but attempted to shrug it off as a sign of progress in the war-torn country - indicating the freedom that the people feel to protest their government... a freedom not celebrated under Saddam.
I see it as humiliating to the United States... a literal footnote to the last eight years... Let us hope that the history books are kinder to Bush than al-Zaidi, and Iraqi public opinion.

Bush's Legacy - Socialist America
Forget Barack Obama's plans for Socialism. The GOP need look no further than our own party leader in the search of a Socialist Scumbag!
Sure, Obama is going to be a thousand times worse, God help us if he wins.
But the nationalization of our banks, lending firms, mortgage industry, education system, and now auto industry, with an option to nationalize the oil and energy sector (once they are taxed into oblivion or forced to fund energy alternatives that will be nationalized and put them out of business anyway) - that is all the legacy of George Bush, the most Liberally Left president in the History of the United States, with the most authoritarian regime in the history as well - rivalling King George, against whom we won our independence.
Bush has ushered in a new era.
Under Obama, he will utilize the socialist momentum established by Bush to enact sweeping governmental reform, putting an end to civil liberty and establishing the perpetual police state of the Americas - policing thoughts, spending, labor, etc... Say good-bye to personal defense, personal responsibility, and personal freedom to speak out against the government. Those will give way to gun bans making Brady look like child's play. He will have the power to place 5 of 9 Supreme Court Justices, which he believes should be radical left judges who uphold the ideal of wealth redistribution, etc... either way, the deck is stacked against the citizen - and we will surely live under Tyranny.
Under McCain, he will utilize this socialist momentum to appease the populist complainers, continuing Bush's policy of entitlements. He will open the borders to millions of immigrant workers, who will benefit from further hand-outs. He indicates that the direction will change, but I argue that it will just not be as bad as Obama. He is the other side of the same coin. he is the lesser of two evils.
With Congress pushing the Fed for another $150 Billion bail-out, the $700 Billion being used to snatch up and nationalize private industry giants, and the public crying out against corruption, as long as the tit is not pulled from THEIR mouth... Change is what we are getting... Change into a nationalized socialist country under authoritarian control.

Maneuvering Iraq out of the 2008 POTUS Race?
I have noticed a trend in headlines regarding Iraq - The Conflict is Nearing End.
It may be so much so that by the end of the summer, should we continue down the path we are on (no major offenses by militants), the final plan for US presence in the country could be set.
I recently posted regarding a story that the Iraqi government is asking for a planned end to combat forces in their country based on the end of the UN Mandate requesting the US forces for security reasons. While this is taking place, Iraq and the US are working out a long term plan allowing some sort of bases and freedom to engage Terror Organizations within the country. This plan is due to be completed by the end of July... Two weeks from today.
Once this plan is established, all the debates regarding timetables, etc. are moot. Could it be that George Bush is effectively taking the wind out of the sails of the Liberal Warships by eliminating this topic as a major need to be filled by the next President? Possibly.
Barack Obama is attempting to claim success (and a win) in the Iraqi request for a planned troop withdrawal after the UN mandate expires. However, it has been the policy of the Republican President, GWB, to finish this conflict and secure the region.
Bush's policy has caused much consternation in the liberal ranks... however, the same policy has freed the country to democracy, free market, foreign investment, and security in the face of radical threats. Let's take a look at some advancements in Iraq that are being hushed by the left, but on day one of an Obama Presidency, victory will be claimed along these same lines (effectively taking credit for Bush's successful policy in Iraq):
*Iraq's economy: Foreign investment is on the rise, coming from Europe and Asia - the stability in Iraq is leading private investment firms to begin flocking to the country, bolstering the fledgling democracy.
*Iraq's economy: The UN is encouraging neighbors and world partners to forgive the Hussein debt of Iraq, allowing the country to start fresh on the world stage... The United Arab Emirates (UAE) took the lead and forgave $7 Billion (roughly 1/5 of Iraq's entire debt). The UAE has taken the additional step in reconnecting ties politically to the country, giving legitimacy to the government in the region.
*Iraq's Security: 15 of the 18 benchmarks set forth by the US Congress in relations to Iraq's security have been met. "The embassy judged that the only remaining shortfalls were the Baghdad government's failure to enact and implement laws governing the oil industry and the disarmament of militia and insurgent groups, and continuing problems with the professionalism of the Iraqi Police." The current plan for Iraqi oil is privatization - though Iraqi oil unions are fighting against that end.
I firmly believe that the mission in Iraq is complete... We have eliminated the country's ability to make war with their neighbors and with the US, we have built and backed a democratic government representative of the people of Iraq, and we have trained and prepared the Iraqi people for security of their own country. The rest is up to them.
Now that we are in the phase of long term planning for troop deployment, the successes will have to be weighed and announced - and the results must indicate that combat is over, and the troops should be brought home (Less the necessary non-combat troops required to populate bases to ensure lasting security in the country - similar to Germany's bases post WWII). Continued combat missions should be halted, and the Iraqi police should conduct such missions. The US presence should be limited to strengthening the Iraqi military by way of continued training.
We will ultimately have to see the outcome of these security discussions (Status of Forces Agreement has been abandoned and replaced with this "bridge agreement"). But in the meantime, the successes in Iraq are evident. The need for US troops elsewhere are evident. The draw-down of US troops in September is evidence that Bush is planning to end this war, effectively removing it from the issues needing to be handled by the next President.
Will it be enough to remove it from the minds of the voters?

Where'd all the good people go?
The Olympic torch is in the United States, in the San Francisco Bay Area today... protests have begun days ago in preparation of the arrival of the torch of freedom being paraded by the worlds most evil empire - China.
Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, and I have agreed for the first time: Boycott the Olympics. Do not support the human rights violations and repeated offenses against humanity and freedom that have been committed by the government of China.
And to top it off, our fearless leader, GW, is supporting the Olympics by attending the opening ceremonies WITH the ruler of China...
What happened to the America in which I was raised?
Where is the strength and anti-communist efforts upheld by everyone from Kennedy to Reagan?
Do we care more about commercialization and globalism than human rights?
Where is the outrage? Where is the humanity?
And why the heck do I find myself allied with the most liberal socialist democrats? Why is this not a united struggle? Have we all become complacent?
I ask... Where'd all the GOOD people go?

President Bush lets Cat out of the Bag about 2000?
Reports are starting to circulate that could put the entire political world on it's head.A secretly recorded conversation between President George W. Bush and an as yet unidentified voice seems to imply that George Bush's campaign had knowledge of "a fix" in the 2000 elections.
Having listened to the audio on a Reuters feed, Bush's voice is very clear, and some of the claims he makes could possibly land him in the middle of an impeachment hearing.
Bush can clearly be heard whispering "I had no idea they were serious, but when the court ruling was announced I knew they really fixed it"
The release of this audio puts us into the midst of a constitutional crisis. George Bush (apparently) won in 2004 legitimately, so he is the President... but if he had knowledge of a rigged election, then he was not the legitimate leader of the US for the first term.
I am in shock right now trying to imagine what implications this could have, now in 2008.
I need to hear from someone who knows something about Constitutional Law on this one!
All I can say is WOW!

America's Failed Economy (?)
Let me preface this post by saying that I am an Economist by NO means. I have a rudimentary understanding of advanced market studies on economy... but I do understand economic principles, and am currently enrolled in a Leadership Program which teaches the capitalist economy.
With that said, I have to restate my blog title: America's Economy has Failed
President Bush's relief plan is the next sign of the failing times.
A year ago, I moved away from California, mainly due to work reasons, but also on the burner were the reasons of overcrowding and real estate prices. a 500 sqft shack in the worst part of San Jose was being sold for $500,000... That is right. I stated at the time that there was no way that the market could survive when the middle class could not even afford housing.
Moving to Colorado, where the foreclosure rates were pretty much leading the nation until recently, I was excited to find affordable housing... and when I talked to the banker regarding home loans, I was sure to specifically request a 30yr fixed. Why? Not because the rates were great, but because I knew that a few years down the road, if I had an adjustable, that I would be out on the street with a LOT of other Coloradans.
Now, the Federal govt. is freezing the rates all together. So in a sense, it is a bad time to be a banker. The federal govt. is dictating who they have to do business with and at what price... Anybody see any resemblance to Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged?
The president says that he is bailing out the citizens... what is really happening is that he is bailing out the bankers. Though the citizens will initially lose their houses, the banks will be left with useless real estate, which they will have to unload at a lower price (market correcting itself), and the banks will take the loss. Then, the $500,000 houses will be back on the market for the $150,000 that it is worth, and the citizens can afford a lower mortgage at a higher rate, the banks make their money back over time... everyone is happy in the long run, and the free market works...
The problem is that the rate freeze will help people keep houses that they cannot afford, house prices will remain high, and at the end of the five year freeze there is going to be an economic implosion. Banks retain their wealth, the people continue to barely make their high mortgage payments, and the economy stagnates.
This, as a free market guy, is wrong on so many levels... so many, in fact, that I am still learning the impacts in my class.

President Richard Cheney... for a day, anyway...
Tomorrow, without the bells and whistles of an inauguration, President Bush will hand over the presidential powers to Richard Cheney. Per section 3 of the 25th Amendment of the Constitution, when the president succumbs to a disability, or can no longer hold the seat for health reasons, the Vice President can take control of the Executive Branch until the (ousted) president notifies authorities that he is able to resume his post.Why the shift of power? The president will be under anesthesia for colon cancer screening for up to two hours.
Yup... We all knew that we would have to take it up the rear when Cheney becomes President... and Bush is 1st in line... (that is a plug for all of my liberal readers)
What policy changes can we expect to see? Perhaps Cheney will take this opportunity to pardon the border agents?... perhaps sign a peace treaty with Cuba?... or perhaps, maybe, just maybe, he will authorize full dictatorial powers to the office of the president under Presidential Directive 51!!! What can we expect from the 44th president in his 2 hour long reign?
Most likely nothing... but I have my fingers crossed for chaos...

Let's See if Bush Gets the Message THIS Time
The Senate is 16 votes short of pushing the immigration/amnesty reform bill down the throats of the citizens.Perhaps, but not likely, the President will get the message that an overwhelming majority of the citizens would prefer us to secure the border first, before we start doling out mini-US-flags and social security cards to millions of illegals...
Sorry Bush... the people have spoken, and the representative (sic) government has listened... again. Your open-borders legacy will have to take a back seat.
What are the bets on Bush-McCain-Kennedy trying a third time? I am hoping that this embarrassing defeat will make that third attempt a "long shot"...

Congress at 14% - the House FINALLY Makes Good Move
I blinked and something happened... let's see if the rest of the Government will follow suit.
The House of Representatives has ACTUALLY acted on behalf of the American people... And I am shocked... it has ONLY taken 6 years for this to take place...
Let me preface this by saying that similar bills have passed, but with so many loopholes that it was like a floodgate, and Bush (our Super hero/villain - circle one) has vetoed time and again...
GET TO THE POINT ALREADY...
The House has passed a bill stopping all aid to Saudi Arabia because they are a 
government who has done nothing little to stop the support of terrorism from their country. In fact, Osama bin Laden is Saudi Royalty the son of a billionaire who has pull with the Royals (and OBL is exiled), and the 9/11 Hijackers were overwhelmingly Saudi... The people of the kingdom of Saud have been preaching hate and terror against the US for YEARS... and now we are finally, FINALLY taking some strong actions...

Well... with 14% approval rating, there is at least SOME hope that they are listening... very faint, and slow to action... but some hope...

How Bush Could Ruin (or save) the 2008 Elections
One word: Iraq
According to a CNN poll, 51% of Americans said that Iraq was going to be "extremely important" when they make their decision for the next president.
43% think healthcare issues are extremely important...
Trickling off after that are economy, terrorism, Social Security, education, etc.
So how is it, you ask, that Bush can ruin the 2008 elections? The answer is simple: Not fixing the mess in Iraq. Bush has about a year to make some MAJOR headway in Iraq, layout a political plan, get other Middle Eastern neighbors involved in securing the region, and be firm with (but PLEASE dont invade) Iran.
It is imperitive that the Democratic candidatates NOT be elected into the White House in 2008... for so many social, economical, and even American unity reasons...
I am not advocating an anti-war message... What I AM advocating is an anti-screw-up message.
I have my fingers crossed... Bush, fix this mess!

According to a CNN poll, 51% of Americans said that Iraq was going to be "extremely important" when they make their decision for the next president.
43% think healthcare issues are extremely important...
Trickling off after that are economy, terrorism, Social Security, education, etc.
So how is it, you ask, that Bush can ruin the 2008 elections? The answer is simple: Not fixing the mess in Iraq. Lame Duck Government?
With the executive and legislative branches of the government both polling in the 25% - 29% approval rating, it is very hard for me to understand how anything they are doing now is relevant?!?
I am not anti-Bush... but here we have a lame duck president with less than two years with which to save face on his presidential legacy. The media and growing lack of support for ongoing operations in Iraq have nailed that as the major legacy... However, it would seem that in an attempt to make the much needed positive headline, Bush is forgetting the tax-cuts that stopped the economic slowdown of the early millenia. So then I have to ask, why, dear president, are we trying to push through unpopular legislation that would allow illegal immigrants to be a lower-than-working class of society, with little to no hope of climbing the rungs of the ladder out of poverty any sooner than three generations???
Oh, that's right. Corporate America needs a cheap labor force. Is that why my execs make tens of millions of dollars a year, and the laborers, such as myself, are left working extended shifts in the midst of understaffing and budget cuts?
And the legislative branch... oh, where do I begin? After a sweeping November election by the Democratic Party, promising to usher in a new era of open government... well, that idea flew right out the window!
So it seems like there are an equal amount of ethics issues on both sides of the aisle - and we are in need of some across the board government reform. That is not to say that we need to change the laws limiting... blah blah blah... rather, the corrupt individuals who are running us down the fast track to Hades need to step out of the way, and give some fresh new minds the reigns.
It is about time for the lame duck government to listen to the will of the people... That is, the Citizens of the US...
Don't get me started on the judicial branch!

Immigration "Reform"
Senate postpones immigration "Reform" vote
Call it what you will (reform, amnesty, etc) but this idea is BAD FOR AMERICA. A similar move was made in the 80's, where 1.6 million illegals were granted amnesty. Now we are dealing with 12-20 million??? That is double the population of Cuba!!! And most all (as can be seen from the country wide "demonstrations" and "La Raza") of them refuse to Americanize... that is, learning our language, our history, our belief system... our RULE OF LAW!
So, the Senate has delayed voting on their grand new plan... but because "there is not enough time to discuss the ammendments"... I can almost guarantee that it is because of the overwhelming calls and e-mails from ACTUAL citizens who oppose this bill that the support is now wavering on both sides of the aisle. Time will tell.
If you want to contact your senator and tell them "NO on Amnesty", the number is 202/224-3121. That is the Senate Switchboard... Ask for your senator by name. If you do not know who you should be asking for, Click Here and use the search state-by-state drop-down in the upper right.
