Liberty Republican Turns 500, Approaches 3rd Anniversary

Starting the new year (and the new decade) with all the energy one man can muster, the Liberty Republican is further charged with two great milestones - 500 blog posts and nearly 3 years of blogging.

This being my official 500th Blog post, let me take a moment to reflect on the community and discourse that has grown and changed over my 500 articles. All of my articles have been heartfelt; they have been either personal, political, or spiritual in a way that only a blogger can fully understand. This blog has become a sounding board for my political platform, providing priceless direction from alliances, commenters, and the occasional old rebel! It has given me voice and community when local institutions failed, and has encouraged my level of political involvement by way of strengthening my core values and understanding of our constitutional republic (that what it once was!). The shared thoughts and ideas, the professional relationships, and the friendships - they have all aided in the continued identity of Steven M Nielson - Political Blogger. For your involvement, I thank you.

As I move forward with this blog it is important to understand the direction in which I am going. Like any intellectual, it is wise to know that the ship must be free to change course during her journey. As such, this blog that began as "Conservative Issues, Conservative Guy", changed into "The New Conservative" in order to better define intent and to appeal to a wider audience. As the political tide changed, and I watched as the Republican Party self destructed under the leadership of neo-conservative war mongers, and the country with it, it was for the preservation of my political integrity to change the name to "The Liberty Republican" - one who no longer watches curiously from the sidelines, rather one who takes the wheel and rights the listing ship.

Will I always be the Liberty Republican - perhaps. However, it is my hope that the word "liberty" becomes a repetition as the Republican Party returns to core values of individual freedom and personal liberty/responsibility. What a joy that day will be when I can simply state that I am a Republican, and know that it means something worthy of announcing out loud.

In the mean time, I will march triumphantly beyond my 500th post, chin up, face into the sun, and sleeves rolled up high - ready to take the fight to the traitorous slobs who are destroying this country's economy, liberty, and historical standing. Hell, I'll do it clinging to my guns and my god, charging my battle flag to the top of capitol hill if I have to!

Thank you for tuning in. Here is to another 500 posts, and continued success as Free People!

WA State Dems - 2010: 'tis the Decade of Taxation!

Happy New Year to you, my faithful readers and likeminded freedom lovers! After a week and a half of recharging the ole batteries, I reconnect to the newsfeed to get more of the same: Democrats in Washington State want to raise taxes

Washington State Democratic Gov. Christine Gregoire and her Democrat team of Flying Monkeys have run this state so far into the red that no 'gimmick' or federal bail-out is going to help them in 2010. Democrat special interests and big government spending have sunk the state deficit to $2.6 Billion through mid 2011.

Gregoire may not be up for re-election in '10, but her Democratic led State House will be placed into a tough spot in an election year - TAX INCREASES. We are not talking your run-of-the-mill Washington State Sales tax - We are talking the dirtiest of all taxes: State Income Tax - though a sales tax increase will be billed as the sensible alternative. In a state where sales tax already reaches into the 8.9% range, gas tax is pushing $0.40 per gallon, and businesses are taxed to death, one has to wonder why the Democrats, instead of cutting budget and living within fiscal restraint, figure that a recession is the perfect time to tax the people.

True to their nature, the Democrats have 'cut as much as we can cut' and are starting the legislative season selling the same old story of “gutting the education budget”, etc, to rally support for taxes – of course, think of the children. Liberal fear mongering at it's worst!

The reality of the matter is that this proposed tax is nothing more than our punishment for continually electing Democratic Majorities into the state house in Olympia. Time and again they spend beyond their means, and we are left footing a larger and larger bill. To what end?

Even if we see tax ‘cuts’ in certain areas as a way to appear ‘tax revenue neutral’, (other than the Billions they’re trying to overcome), there is no stopping the eliminated taxes from returning when Democrats spend us into another corner in the future – again I ask, TO WHAT END?

Instead of rolling up the sleeves and doing the dirty work, the easy answer is simply to take more money from the loyal subjects of the state of Washington. Unfortunately the trends are similar in every state and at the federal level: unrestrained spending, mortgaging the future for fruitless delusions. The Democrats understand nothing about sound fiscal judgment.

What is needed is a simple tax system, a series of protections against future spending and future tax increases, and a serious look at the regulatory structure of the State of Washington. We can get there by limiting government special welfare programs, consolidating regulatory agencies, and cutting the government size and payroll significantly. Cut the SIZE of the government to within the budgetary means, not increase revenue to feed the larger beast - What a Novel Concept!!

The leaders in our state, as well as our federal, governments should understand that economic and social prosperity comes not under the heavy burden of taxes and overregulation, rather under the encouragement of innovation and individual success. Another burdensome tax will merely deepen the underlying problem – Democratic State Spending!

…and the Home of the Slaves

I was greeted this morning by a wonderful oration by Minn. Rep. Michele Bachmann from the House Floor back in June. This four minute clip covers the fundamentals of the new philosophy of government – the American people exist at the pleasure of the Government.

Echoing the concerns of Rep. Bachmann, I simply ask you, what liberty is there when you cannot freely pursue happiness? That simple right which was acknowledged by our founding fathers as inalienable has been revoked by the government for the purpose of continuing the growth of an infinitely powerful ruling structure.

Where once we were the land of the free, America has quickly become solidified as the home of the slaves. Slaves, we have become, to our ruling class… to a power structure that is growing so large and far reaching that our very livelihood depends on humbling yourself before them, begging to continue your line of work which has sustained your family for generations. We are left pleading for the government to allow us to do a job.

Without paying taxes to the government, you are forced from your land. Without work, you are unable to pay taxes. Without approval from the government, you are unable to work.

The structure of our society is one that no longer supports happiness. It is one that no longer endorses freedom. Freedom, in the mind of our government, is nothing more than orderly consumption of material goods and an abiding devotion to providing labor per your ability. We are free to work in accordance with the government’s social plan.

I ask you… how free will our country be when we overwhelmingly begin to reject this structure currently being forced upon us? When the streets are lined with bodies of the dead, for they no longer were needed for the government’s plan… or their removal after a forced uprising…

The structure is in place. Big brother is truly watching. The heavy hand of the government is upon us. Futile attempts to resist will be met with overwhelming force.

Welcome to America. Enjoy your slavery!

Rise of the Liberty Republican

What has happened to The New Conservative?

My recent lack of existence in the blogging world has nothing to do with the struggle in which we find ourselves politically, nor does it have anything to do with my perception of the progress or outcome of any of our struggles.

What it does have to do with is my recent relocation from Colorado to Washington State. In May, I was offered a promotion within my company to relocate from the Centennial State to the Evergreen State. Since the Pacific Northwest was my home for so many years, and most of my immediate family remains in the area, it only made sense that I relocate myself and my family closer to the relatives.

As such, I have been largely without free time, largely without “me time”, and largely without constant access to the internet… and thus my blog has been put on the back burner.

Once we are settled in to a new home, and once I can ensure that my family is safe and secure, I can focus my energies outward once again – this time bringing the fight to Washington State Liberals who make those in Colorado seem like amateurs!

In the mean time, I will fill you in on a little of what is to come.

I will be ending the theme of “The New Conservative”… it is too soft. I am going to up the ante on my brand name to match the theme of my entries of late – Libertarianism within the Republican Party… It is truly the only way to differentiate ourselves from the hypocritical politicians claiming to champion the cause of liberty, but do so by growing the government… This concept is lunacy, and it can no longer be lightly treaded upon…

Therefore, I will begin making changes to the look and feel of the website – changing the name to “The Liberty Republican”. I have long been a Libertarian, and my affiliation with the GOP Platform has been loose. My involvement within the party has always been with intent to strengthen the party by returning to core values which defined the GOP of Goldwater, and slightly less so (but equally important) of Reagan. We need to focus on getting the “government” OUT of government… returning the government to the people… returning our liberties, our freedom, our lives to US… we can be the party that delivers this nation out of governmental bondage… we can lead… but we must be bold, we must be strong… that is why The New Conservative is The Liberty Republican!

Douglas County GOP Election Results

The Douglas County Republicans (here in Colorado) held their organizational meeting last night, where officer elections were conducted.

There was a three way race for Chairman. Kelsey Alexander, incumbent, faced challenges by Jeff Wasden (Highlands Ranch HOA President and two time candidate for county commissioner), and John Ransom (County Party Activist). The first round of balloting resulted in a required run-off between Jeff Wasden and John Ransom, both scoring about 75 votes. Kelsey Alexander was dropped from the ticket, having pulled in only 58 votes in the first round. John Ransom was elected as Chairman, pulling in 110 votes to Jeff Wasden's 87.

There was a two way race for Vice Chairman. The incumbent was not running for re-election. Two challengers, Merlin Klotz and Mark Baisley faced off. Mark Baisley was elected as the Vice Chairman of the Party after being endorsed by John Ransom. Mark is an extremely involved party activist.

The race for Treasurer saw no incumbent, and the challenger was unopposed. John Fielding was elected by acclamation. John is an attorney, and a party activist.

The race for Secretary was between incumbent Steven Nielson and challenger Marsha Heilflien. Marsha is a retired legal secretary for the Colorado 18th Judicial District, and was endorsed by Kelsey Alexander, John Ransom, and others from the 18th Judicial. Incumbent Steven Nielson was re-elected to the post of Secretary, 104 - 82.

For my second term as Secretary of the Douglas County Republican Party, it is my goal to work in expanding the free media available in order to open a dialogue with Republicans, Independents, and Democrats - informing them of our party principles and taking input as to their wants and needs from the Party as a more representative body.

It was a late night - the meeting adjourned at 12:30 AM. The New Officers of the Party now have the reigns. Let's look forward, capture the momentum, and look toward our role in the state wide elections of 2010.

"THE NEW CONSERVATIVE" TURNS 200!

The New Conservative has cleared a hurdle of 200 posts! This is no large task, but something that is surely worth celebrating.

From here, I plan to continue posting topics that are general interest, but may consider a week by week "theme" to encourage continued readership. One thing is certain, I want to refrain (as much as possible) from being a sounding board for News stories. My hope is that The New Conservative can continue to grow into a site for activism and special interest topics with widespread interest.

Some upcoming ideas: The return of Wild Buffalo to the US, continued coverage of the Lakota with a potential visit to Pine Ridge Reservation to report first-hand, The new definition of Eminent Domain and it's reflection of Statism in the US... of course with some great political posts as they become more relevant.

So thank you to my readers. It has been a great journey thus far! Stay tuned for more great content as we head towards 500 posts!

Before the results, my thoughts on Super Tuesday II

This could very well be my last post on Mike Huckabee and his bid for the GOP longshot nomination. Mike Huckabee's remaining in the race has been for the sole purposes of giving conservatives a voice as McCain moved towards the nomination. Pulling in 41% in Virginia and 38% in Wisconsin should be enough of a message to John McCain that he needs to pick a cabinet, and run a White House that will not isolate the conservative movement.

We will have from tomorrow until November to determine if John McCain is going to reach out to the right as hard as he has reached out to the left.

Regarding today... can Mike Huckabee pull an upset? With Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Vermont on the chopping block, I see Huckabee doing well in Texas alone... the rest will go to McCain overwhelmingly... likely giving McCain his required delegates to secure the nomination. But I have to give Mike Huckabee kudos for running an honest, positive, and on message campaign, while sticking to his word that he would stay in it to ensure the conservatives have a voice.

I'm not eulogizing Huckabee's campaign yet... but regardless of the outcome, I have much respect for the man, for his message, and his willingness to listen to the people, the bloggers, and the late night comedians... which has always been entertaining.
